The Dauphin Rail Museum is located in the former baggage room of the iconic 1912 Pratt-designed Class I Canadian Northern Railway Station—often referred to as Manitoba’s Most Beautiful Station. This striking example of Château-style architecture features an eclectic pyramidal roof and walls clad in Manitoba’s own Tyndall Stone, recently recognized as a Global Heritage Stone Resource. Following a $1.4 million restoration completed in 2001, the station was designated both a Manitoba Heritage Building and a Heritage Railway Station of Canada.
Inside, the museum preserves and interprets over 125 years of regional railway history through artifacts, photographs, and archival materials. Highlights include a large HO-scale model layout recreating Dauphin’s rail operations in 1954, a fully accessible “jigger” (railway inspection car) for visitors to explore, a PDC-type caboose, and the nearby roundhouse and turntable—now home to the City of Dauphin Public Works Department.
Guests can enjoy free Wi-Fi, interactive QR code experiences, and hands-on exhibits designed for younger visitors.
